WELCOME PARENTS

  • School Times

    • The school starts at 7.30 to 13.45. Please make sure your child is on time.

    • Extra murals is from 14:00 to 15:00.

  • Homework

  • Children should be in bed by 20:00 learners fall asleep during lessons!

  • School Diary: communication between parents and educators should be signed daily.

  • Parents must make sure that learners bring a packed lunch to school. Learners cant concentrate if they are hungry.

  • Learners should have all requirements and come to school prepared for each day.

  • Money sent to school should be in clearly marked envelopes. A receipt should be received within one day.

  • Reading: Learners should be encouraged to read at home. Join a public library and take out books as a family.

  • Remember, learners learn by example and will become keen readers if parents set the example.

  • Parents/Staff/School open communications don not hesitate to call us: 012 344 2249.

  • Phone secretaries and leave a message for the teacher to contact you.

  • Remedial lessons for English and Maths are Compulsory and at no charge. Teacher will hand out letters to learners.

  • Detention: Every Friday from 14:00 - 15:00

  • Birthdays: are time consuming NO class parties in school time.

  • Our school is an extension of home. The school needs the parents support in educating and Disciplining our children. Discipline, good manners, dress code, road safety, etc. all starts at home. Please see GDE board at the front gate.

  • Set an example. As a parent, children will do as you do. Boys will follow their fathers example so set a good example to your children.

  • Life is based on values, so let us as parents and educators enforce good values now, so that society will benefit in the future.

  • Pay school fees, check homework and see that your child is on time for school at 07h30.

  • The school is an educational institution; discipline goes hand in hand with education.

  • Let our children never say :

  • The one who loved me the most denied me the right to a good education.

  • Every parent wants the best education for their child. This in turn contributes towards a future country.

  • Code of Conduct: Parents to discuss The Code of Conduct with their child. This is printed in the school diary (Gr3-7). Please sign in the designated place that you have read this Code of Conduct.

  • Dress code: Uniform must be clean and neat. No Jewellery, cell phones etc.

  • Marking of Clothing: Clothing  MUST be clearly marked.

  • Good manners: Stand up and greet adults / show respect.

  • Sports dress: Swimming caps are most important. The cost of maintaining the pool is high because of gel or oil in the learner hair.

  • You must take responsibility for youyr child; are the parent!

  • Children must go to bed early. They must have a good breakfast and drink enough water, especially in summer, which is vital for brain development.

  • Suitable packed lunches: Children spend long hours at school and therefore need a healthy packed lunch to sustain them.

  • Leaving children alone:NEVER leave your children alone without supervision, anything can go wrong. They are not matured enough to take responsibility.

  • Pool: If your child cannot swim please inform the class teacher.

  • Letters to class educator if your child is sick: Sick learners should not be sent to school. We cannot accommodate sick learners.

  • Lice / Conjunctivitis / Ringworm / Pink eye: children may not come to school whilst still infected. This is the policy of the School Governing Body and GDE.

  • Inform the school when your child is absent: Parents are the line of communication. If your child is in hospital please inform the school, we would like to know.

  • No messages for learners during the day please (unless in an emergency). No keys will be handed to strangers / family.

  • Parents may not interrupt teachers / lessons during the school day. Please report to the office and make an appointment.

  • Money: Money sent to school should be in clearly marked envelopes. A receipt should be received within one day.

  • Transport & Road safety: Pedestrians must use the Zebra Crossing. Parents must not park on the pedestrian crossing or in front of the sliding gate to the car-park. Please set the correct example for your child.

  • Litter: Help us keep the school and our society clean.

  • Learners should have all the requirements and come to school prepared.

  • School bags: Please use the appropriate school bags available from the school shop to prevent damage to school books which are very expensive to replace.

  • Reading: This is a most important aspect in school. Children must read every day. Please encourage them. If your child is not a member of a Public Library, it is not too late to enroll him / her.

  • Communication to parents: Communication to parents is done via newsletters, homework diaries, the website and SMS.

  • Arcadia has an open door policy. Don not hesitate to contact the school when in doubt.

  • School hours: This year the new starting and finishing times result in a longer day. Please arrange transport accordingly.
